Casual Friday: Dressing Up a White Tee & Jeans

Most days in our office you will see any number of styles due to the nature of each individual’s job, however on Friday’s everyone’s ready for the weekend and casual looks abound. I love wearing jeans at the office however I like to keep my look dressy just in case I run into a client, there’s an impromptu meeting, etc. Today I opted for a white tee and jeans with a navy blazer, white sandals and yellow accessories.

I recently wore these yellow accessories with a cobalt cardigan here, but for today I wanted to add a little extra punch.

The navy blazer is a must with the cooler temps we’ve been experiencing this week and the navy polka dot belt/scarf helps tie it all together (pun intended). 😉

$1.99 Red Lipstick – NYC 308 Retro Red

There’s been quite a bit of talk lately in blog-land about which shades of RED or PINK or ORANGE lipstick are best. I found this super cheap RED lipstick at Wal-mart last fall from NYC and I love it. I can make it pinker with a light application and lip gloss or I can go all out RED, as I’ve done here with a heavier dose. It’s long wearing and again – super cheap! I think I paid about $1.99 total. I have a favorite PINK lipstick I received in a Birchbox I got for Christmas that I’ll highlight Monday.

Although the temperatures have cooled somewhat, Spring is here to stay and I am so glad. I can’t wait to get out and enjoy more sun this weekend!! We’ve been continuing our Operation Outdoor Spruce up this spring so I’ll be posting about these changes and more throughout the month of May!

Casual Friday: DIY Statement Necklace

Thank you all for your sweet comments on my DIY Skirt featured in Wednesday’s post. I really appreciated each and every one!

I love DIY projects; most are sewing projects but I have branched out to other areas via Pinterest! Recently I made this great Pin: T-shirts to Statement Necklaces

DIY Statement Necklace, T-shirt to Statement Necklace, Celtic Knot, Braids

and ended up making a bracelet too!

These statement pieces were super quick and easy to make. I hope to make a couple more in different colors, but currently I have enough white tees to make more and then try some dyeing techniques – maybe ombre?!

I also hope to find the time to sew another skirt using the same technique I used to create my DIY Skirt I wore on Wednesday, but this time I’ll be adding a bottom ruffle or pleats to it. The main material I found is just too short for my liking. I might try to photograph my steps, but the material is black and that may or may not photograph well.

DIY Projects Around Our Home:

In the coming weeks I’ll be showing you a few DIY related projects Caveman and I have completed over the past year.

OUTDOORS: Last spring I left you with only one installment of Operation Outdoor Spruce Up, part 1. We Caveman has completed a few more items on our list and I plan to bring them to you this spring.

INDOORS: Last weekend on our shopping trip I found some great spring/summer fabric for pillow covers. I really want to update a few of the ones I made last year to incorporate some brighter colors. Thanks to Pinterest and the amazingly crafty bloggers behind Pinterest I also tried a new technique with the “A” on our gallery wall that I’ll be posting soon. DIY-Wooden-Frames

That’s all for today! Sounds like I have some serious work today this weekend! 😉 We also plan to get out and enjoy this amazing spring weather too! What are you guys planning, anything fun?

WIWW: Minty Florals

Spring has definitely sprung this week with warmer temps, sunshine and even a few thunderstorms! I am in love with the weather and soaking up as much as I can of the glorious sunshine! Can you tell I was over winter? 😉

Minty Florals, DIY Skirt, Ballet Flats
Sweater & CK Belt – Thrifted, DIY 1yd Skirt – Made by me!, Ballet Flats – Target

I paired this mint sweater with my DIY 1 yard of material skirt, this thrifted green Calvin Klein belt and Target ballet flats! This combo is a keeper, I just love how this outfit came together. It is so springy too!

Also did you notice my legs aren’t as stark white as a few weeks ago? I recently picked up a travel sized tube of Jergens Natural Glow Daily Moisturizer and have been using it a couple of days a week ever since.

Jergens Natural Glow Daily MoisturizerI have a nice glow – not stark white anymore, but more importantly I’m not orange either! I love this stuff! When I go to purchase a regular sized bottle, I’m going to try out the Jergens Natural Glow Firming + Daily Moisturizer! And I have a $1 off coupon too!

(Note: I was not compensated in any way for this review. This is just my opinion. I like passing on info on great products when I can. 😉 )

Valentine’s Day Heart DIY

Valentine’s Day is the perfect day to show off my DIY skills, LOL! I am in love with all the graphic print sweaters, sweatshirts and Tees. Every store has them and just about every fashion/style blogger has worn them.

While at Tar’jey the other day I found long-sleeve knit tops on clearance for $3, I scooped up two and instantly the DIY wheels started churning. This shirt is lilac, but can almost pass for a shade of pink. I knew a red heart on the front would be perfect!

Valentine’s Day Heart DIY

Let’s get started… here’s what you will need for this DIY:
1. Long-Sleeve Knit Top or Sweater
2. Red Knit material cut out in the shape of a heart!
3. Scissors – to cut said material
4. Straight pins – to hold the heart in place
5. Needle and Black embroidery thread – I used 4 strands

The heart is hand-sewn onto to the shirt. Here’s how I did it…

1. Long-sleeve Knit Top; 2. Place Heart on Top
3. Pin in Place; 4. Hand Sew with Black Embroidery Thread

In the photos above, I laid out my tee, placed the heart wear I wanted, pinned in place and then used a running stitch and every so often, a back stitch to sew the heart onto the shirt.  I stitched approximately a quarter of an inch away from the edge all the way around the heart! When you get to the end, knot your thread – taking care not to pull the fabric too tightly, and your done! Here’s the finished tee…

I had another meeting today so I dressed up the basic tee with a black blazer and red pants. Since it’s Valentine’s Day I kept the red lip for my Valentine’s Day business casual look.

Fashion Friday: Attempting Preppy!

This outfit was inspired by another prompt from #StyleMeMay, way back from day 15! I’m still playing catch-up on all the prompts for #StyleMeMay and #FBPhotoADayMay from my week off last week.

Not quite sure if I got the Preppy look exactly, but it’s definitely one I’d like to master!

Blazer, Blouse, & Belt – Thrifted; Pants – JCP; Sandals – Merrel (Another Gift from Mom!)

I’m so looking forward to this long weekend. I have a few DIY projects planned or that need to be wrapped up, including power washing the back deck! That thing is gross! Maybe cleaning it up will help us get inspired to start/finish up the patio we’ve been planning out there. It would be so nice! Caveboy and Casey (our dog) already love hanging out back there and throwing the Frisbee together! I taught Caveboy how to “wind-up” the Frisbee a few weeks back. He really impressed the extended family with his Frisbee skills over Mother’s Day weekend!

Close-up of Mint Nails!

I’m also attempting Mint Nails today! I’ve seen these everywhere and I love the look. I did both my toes and fingers today so I’m all matchy-matchy, which is a good thing because…. Caveman & I are going on a movie date tonight!!! Eeeeek! I think I can count on one hand the number of those we’ve had since before Caveboy was born! When we were dating we went all the time!

I hope everyone has a great Memorial Day Weekend! Please be safe and if you would, please thank a veteran or service man/woman for their military service and sacrifice for our country!
