Casual Friday: Yellow Graphic Tee & Jeans

Today is the last day of my week long, self-challenge based on the Trend of the Month Challenge – Yellow.

I’ve really enjoyed the challenge, but I have to say today’s was the toughest to come up with and then, the most fun! Things I’ve learned through this process, I actually do have a few yellow items – if I really dig that is…

Today’s graphic tee was found in the bottom of my dress, under everything else. Maybe you think it should have stayed there, maybe my co-workers do too, one will never know. I purchased this one a whim way back in 2005. No, I wasn’t on Spring Break I just wanted a top from the Rainforest Cafe! I hardly ever wear this tank top because it shrank after I got it home and washed it. But I was actually happy with the way I styled it for today’s look so it might, actually get some wear this summer!

To make this graphic tank top more office appropriate I added this thrifted pink button up, left open; a blue cross necklace;  a mint green & pink/coral bracelet; a belt to my low-rise jeans and some cute strappy wedges.

Thrifter Thursday: Denim Skirts

We’re continuing Yellow Week here in honor of Marion’s Trend of the Month challenge!

I recently saw Lindsey‘s post on the Return of the Jean Skirt and read that denim skirts are coming back in style and I couldn’t be happier! I have a dark denim pencil skirt I picked up from Target a couple years ago and I love wearing it, but this skirt is one I made years ago before I even had a blog! It’s flare at the bottom makes it really fun to wear too!

Graphic Tee – Thrifted, Denim Up-cycled Jean Skirt – ME, Belt – Forever 21, Ballet Flats – Target

I made this skirt out of two pairs of old jeans, using a New Look pattern to go by. Knowing the color of the denim was different, I kept the darker denim in the middle and the lighter denim on the sides (the back looks exactly the same as the front so the side seams match).  I added the brown piping for interest and also because I didn’t want to hem the jean material. This is actually a really heavy skirt!

I accented today’s look with yellow accessories, however I have worn this tee with a bright pink skirt too. This is a great weekend casual look or great for going out for an evening of family fun at the park.

May 2013 TOTM Challenge: YELLOW

Today is the Trend of the Month Challenge Link-Up and May’s Trend link-up is Yellow! Hop on over the Marion’s blog to link-up!

I talked a few times about being afraid to wear yellow most of my life but since changing my hair color to red, I’ve attempted to embrace the color. A few years ago while at Target (where else?) I saw their $7 Tees and I decided to get one in yellow, hopping it would work with my red hair. I’ve worn this tee loads of different ways on the weekends throughout the summer and spring, but I’ve never really dressed it up for the office.

White Blazer & Tee – Target, Navy Cropped Pants & Bag – Thrifted, Jade Statement Necklace – Grandmother, Bracelets – Julep, Sandals – Payless

This white blazer is the perfect way to dress up a tee in any color really, it instantly takes a casual outfit to classic! It’s has gotten loads of wear this season too. A white or colored blazer is the perfect staple in a spring/summer business wardrobe and yet can be worn casually as well.

Originally when I thought about how I could dress up my yellow tee for work, I wanted to pair it with a navy blazer and white pants, but it just didn’t work with the navy blazer I have so I reversed the colors with white on top and navy on the bottom. To help tie everything together I added my white purse and sandals, oh and a red lip!

I have found that the simplest outfits have the most impact. I love that about this look! I got lots of compliments from Caveman and a few women at work too!

Although you can’t really see it unless you’re in direct sunlight, my necklace is made of Jade. I’ve been looking for a way to wear it for a while now, but just never could seem to get it right. Wearing it brings me closer to my late grandmother and reminds me that she was a hard working mother too!

Fashion Friday: LBD – Office Edition

I’ve been seeing loads of LBD’s (little black dresses for those not in the know) popping up all over blogland lately and I thought I’d thrown in my take on the LBD: Office Edition.

LBD – JCP, Statement Necklace – Julep, Sandals – Payless

I’m sure you’ve all heard it before but I’m going to remind you again. If you invest in a great staple, like this linen-blend sheath, it will last you many, many years; throughout many different fashion trends. I picked up this LBD from JCP approximately 10 years ago when I became a real professional office worker! 😉

This little guy had gotten me through many meetings, after work drinks/casual dinners, Sunday’s at church and it would even work great for an afternoon out with the family.

For this look, simplicity is key! Simple redlip, statement necklace, earrings and sandals. What do you think? For me it’s perfect for the office.

It’s that time again!!! Each month I eagerly anticipate Marion’s announcement for the Trend of the Month challenge! Wednesday she announced the Trend of the Month for May would be Yellow! Be sure to link up your “Yellow” inspired outfits next Wednesday.

The challenges usually push me out of my comfort zone and this month’s challenge has been no exception. You have to understand, I love the color yellow as much as the next gal but have always been afraid to wear it and therefore I do not really own anything in yellow. There are no cute yellow skirts, blouses, scarves, purses, heels, flats, necklaces or earrings in my closet and this fact has got me worried about how to play along next week. What I do own in the color yellow is one bangle, one set of hoop earrings, a DIY necklace, a yellow button up shirt and one yellow tee! Casual Friday: Denim & Floral Capri’s

I can’t believe it’s time for another weekend already!! This year is flying by and for us, it only looks to become more hectic.

With the warmer weather I couldn’t resist pairing this great denim top with my Capri’s for a casual look. Also I’m playing along with the @C2C_Central girls for the #Tucked-In #CoasttoCoastChallenge yesterday. I attempted the front tuck, but I never seem to master the look. I’m positive I’ll keep trying, LOL.

I went with a #redlip today, although it looks pink in most of these photos, and the no-heat curls I blogged about recently.
