The Grind Giveaway from Bonobos

“The Grind” Giveaway

TheGrindGiveaway1

When it comes to office style both Caveman and I, have found that classic/neutral/basic pieces are what works best for us in terms of wearability and the speed it takes to put something together & get out the door. We are basically at a dead run from the time we get up to the time we leave.

Just about every morning our routine goes a little something like this, … the alarm clock goes off at 5:15, I spring out of bed and shut it off, and then climb back into bed to sleep/snuggle for 5-15 minutes. We then reluctantly leave our warm cocoon to start readying ourselves for the day. We both ask each other what we should wear. We generally each have our own ideas about our outfits for the day but it never hurts, especially for me, to have the other’s opinion. I’ve come up with some real winners and been extremely thankful for Caveman’s honesty. I know he’s saved me from looking like a clown more than once!

Basic pieces are easily mixed and matched, with brighter pops thrown in for interest. For Caveman these consist of basic slacks with a nice dress shirt. For me either a pencil skirt or slacks with a sweater/blouse/tank/top. These Weekday Warrior pants from Bonobos paired with their Daily Grind dress shirts make getting dressed a cinch!

Although Caveman doesn’t wear a suit to work every day, every man needs a great foundation suit. My man always looks great in black, but he would look equally amazing in this Charcoal Foundation Suit.

Amazing Amazon.com Christmas Deals!

Yes, it would seem I’m breaking my radio silence to bring you some amazing deals from Amazon just in time for Christmas!

Amazon_bracelets

This year I told Caveman I really wanted a bracelete for Christmas. So I found a few great examples on Pinterest, showed them to him and asked if he would visit a local jewelry shop to purchase them. He decided he didn’t want to make any purchases without my approval so we visited the jewelry shop together this weekend, with a sicker-than-we-thought Caveboy intow. At the shop the prices were REALLY high and Caveboy was definitely sicker-than-we-thought! So….when we got home and I looked up some braceletes on Amazon and found this beauty.

Amazaon_BoyToys

This year has been really hard picking out the special something for Caveboy! He went around telling everyone he was getting an iPad until I finally got him to understand that iPad’s are just a little too much for a 4-year old! He loves dinosaurs but lately he’s also been getting interested in matchbox cars. I decided to search for matchbox racetracks at Amazon.com and what do you think I came across? This amazing (doesn’t require batteries, got great reviews from other customers, & doesn’t make any additional sounds) dino-matchbox-racetrack! He’s gonna love it! I threw in some other dinosaur related books, stamps and temporary dino tatoos for fun and I’m calling it done!

Amazon_Sport

Caveman asked specifically for one of these babies, way back in the summer so how could I refuse?!

We’ve gotten free shipping on most all the orders and some amazing deals are going on right now. If you are still needing a last minute gift but can’t get out to the stores, head on over to Amazon.com now. Here’s the ordering cutoffs as of 12/16!

I’ll be back later this week with a few reveiws and our Christmas Card this year!

Stripes & Turquoise!

Happy Middle-of-August Everyone! Who’s ready for crisp, cool weather, changing leaves and hayrides – this girl!!

Stripes & Turquoise

Sweater – Target, Capri’s & SAK Purse – Thrifted, Canvas Shoes – old, DIY T-Shirt Bracelet – handmade

I picked up this striped summer-sweater at Target the other day for $5!! I love finding stuff in the Target clearance racks or their $1 section! I went with the small because the medium was just huge and didn’t fit right. Although with all the walking and running I’ve been doing lately, I’ve lost some weight and all my clothes are fitting better!

Please forgive the frizzy hair, when I left there were some loose curls, but overall my hair was mostly straight! This humidity is killer these days and its been raining and raining, come on fall!!

Happy Birthday to Me & a Mid-Summer Update!

I do apologize for the silence over here, but what better day to update you than on my birthday!!

Birthday Selfie

Happy Birthday to me!

Yep, I’m a year older today and this one started off kinda rough, but Caveman is an amazing husband & friend. He loves me through my rough patches and the good times too. I love that man of mine!!

DoubleBraids

Giving the double braided messy bun a try today!

So how’s our summer so far? Its been filled with lots of this…

Summer Squash

Summer Squash from our Garden!

We have a lovely garden this year and every night Caveboy insists on staying outside until almost dark.

bike rides

Evening bike rides!

We ride bikes, hunt worms, play Frisbee, catch lightening bugs and attempt not to melt in the 80%+ humidity!

Frozen Yogurt Bars, little boys

And Frozen Yogurt Bars!

Our 4th of July was rained out completely, but the sun is shining today!! Yippee!

I attempted to get a decent outfit photo the other day but this is all I managed. I refashioned a tee that was an XL and swallowed me whole, into something that I could actually wear – you know, in public!

refashioned tee, white capris

Refashioned Tee – free from conference, White Capri’s – Target, Sandals – gift from Mom last year, Purse – SAK (Thrifted)

I used my Anchor tee as a guide as I like the cut of the top. So I cut down the sides, cut off the sleeves and then cut them down too. I completely cut off the neck band and bottom hem too. I sewed up the sides, set in the sleeves again and just turned down the neckline once and then ran a straight stitch around it. I’ve never hemmed the bottom and don’t think I’m going to either but I would like to add elastic to the bottom 3 or 4 inches of the side seams so that there will be some runching and gather up some of the excess material. Refashioning this tee took about 30 minutes all told, but it was spread out over a few days. 😉

Hope you all are having a wonderful summer so far!! I can’t believe it’s half over already!!

June’s Trend of the Month Announced!

Just a quick pop-in today to let you know that Marion announced this month’s Trend of the Month Challenge!
Show us your maxi
OK, I’m sure this is not a shock to any of you since you have never seen me wear a maxi here on the old blog, BUT I don’t actually own a Maxi anything! Not a skirt or dress! I did however cut out a pattern for a maxi dress I’ve had for years, a few months back in some beautiful fabric. So now all I need to do is finish it! Maybe I’ll get in some late night sewing this weekend?? Here’s hoping cause I’d really like to link up next week with my new maxi dress!

Do you have a Maxi and want to show it off too? Here’s How It Works…IT’S AS EASY AS 1 – 2 – 3!:

1) In the middle of every month, Marion announces a new trend that is either here or forthcoming. You’ll have 1 week to pull together a style and take photos.

2) When the date arrives, simply link-up your specific post using the link widget Marion provides on Marionberry Style. This MUST be a NEW post…please don’t link old blog posts.

3) PLEASE link back to Marionberry Style from your site so this “Trend of the Month Challenge” stuff makes sense to your readers. Plus it’s the kind thing to do and helps spread the word!
