Day 21: Final Day! Work It!

I have had so much fun with this 21 Day Fashion Challenge! I want to do it all over again even though it was a lot of work. Whew!

Jacket – Old Navy * Shirt – newly Thrifted * Pants – JCPenney’s * Shoes – Pay-less

Kinda funny, but I really didn’t give that much thought to all the different style elements that were in this outfit when I put it together this morning. I guess I learned a thing or two from this challenge! It was rainy and cold perfect for trying out a new fall outfit. For all the different elements in this outfit, I would still only rate it as OK. I wanted more color with the pale yellow blouse, but nothing seemed to be working. Maybe next time. I’m going to keep challenging myself with my outfits but I don’t think I’ll post them every day, maybe just a few times a week or once for all the weeks outfits. We’ll see because it has been fun!

Day 20: Sunday Shoes on a Saturday?!

One more day and this challenge will be over. I’m sad but also kinda relieved. This has been lots of work to plan outfits, take the photos, then get Caveboy to let me move photos from camera to computer to jump-drive, etc. BUT I’ve also had loads of fun and I’ve seen a few things in my closet in a new and completely different way. I did take photos for this challenge, but they turned out horrid and I will not be posting those on the blog for all to see. But you do get this one instead…

Patent Leather Sandals – Pay-less

These are one of the new pair of sandals Caveman bought for me earlier this summer. I wear them all the time because they are so comfortable. They add just enough oomph to a casual outfit to make it dressy or just make a dressy outfit better!

Day 19: Adorn Your Head

I thought of lots of stuff to wear in my head (hat, rolled flower, headband, etc.), tried a couple of ’em too, but nothing seemed to work, so…you get this! Yeah, totally lame-o but that’s what I’m feelin’ today, just me and my Ray Ban’s. Tee and Sweater – Target * Jeans – JCPenney’s * Sandals – Payless

I would love to be able to do the scarf trick I’ve seen a couple of people do, I love the look but I just can’t seem to get it right. Gotta run, but I hope everyone has a great Labor Day weekend!!

Day 18: Statement Jewelry – Caveboy approved

I’ve never been a huge fan of jewelry so about 6 months ago I went through all my jewelry that I’ve collected over the years and got rid of a bunch that I either hadn’t worn in years or never wore. None of the pieces I’ve ever owned would have been considered statement pieces though.

White Shirt – Old Navy * Sweater – Eddie Bauer Outlet * Skirt – Target * Shoes – Payless

After the purge I only was left with a few broaches, lots of smaller earrings, and three necklaces that I really liked; two of which are pearls and the other is a small turquoise piece. As I was deciding what if anything would work for today, Caveboy was looking with me through my jewelry stash. He knows what necklaces and earrings are and even picked up one of my larger earrings up and put it up to his ear saying, “ear ‘ing”. He is so sweet, but then he saw this broach. “Punkin, punkin!” he said, so I told him thank you for helping me pick out my jewelry today and decided to wear it. I really like the idea of statement jewelry so I’ll have to invest in a few pieces soon. Maybe on my next thrifting excursion. Oh and I’m wearing my remix sweater for the third time today. I’ve really liked remixing this piece, so far I’ve never worn it any of the ways I have for this challenge and today’s outfit will definitely be worn again! Success!! On the hair today, I attempted the hair wrapped around the headband trick last nigh and got decent curls, but it has been so dry they fell out relatively quickly. The last time I tried this I got tight kinky curls that resulted in frizz and my hair up in a bun! I used larger sections this time and the curls were more wavy which was nice. I’ll keep trying this one until I get it right.

Day 17: Repair & Wear

I bought this top last week on my thrifting excursion.

Shirt – Thrifted * Pants – JCPenney’s * Shoes – Payless

At the store I thought it was cute, a great green color and I liked the dart details on the front. Got home and tried it on, ugh! It was way too big in the back and was just swallowing me up. So hung it in the closet to mend someday….fast forward to this week. It just so happened that my Mom was over on Tuesday night and could occupy Caveboy! When I went to mend this I realized there was only one set of darts in the back but 3 sets in the front (sorry for the lack of photos on the before), so I set out to duplicate those on the back too.

Because of the unique details on these darts they look really complicated to duplicate, but they are actually really simple. I measured and measured some more, then got to work. Success??I tried it on quickly that night and thought it was loads better, but when I put it on this morning it reminded me of a maternity top. I wore it anyway because it really isn’t that bad, but I will be either adding another set of darts to the front or else taking in the sides. I measured the front vs. the back this evening and realized by taking in the back to match the front, that now the front is about an inch bigger than the back so back to the mending pile it goes! I will get there eventually. I may (& saying may as in, if Caveboy takes an epic nap and Caveman is fishing or something) shorten the hem at some point so it doesn’t look so maternity-ish.Also the skirt I had paired with the shirt originally just wasn’t working, so I opted for these flared khakis instead. The mornings are getting cooler here and it is making me long for fall weather & warmer clothing. Fall is my favorite season.
